MARION HALL Artist's Resume

Marion Hall is a recognized watercolorist whose paintings feature seascapes, landscapes, and wildlife from Cape Ann Massachusetts, New England, Upper Captiva Island Florida, Cornwall England, and Provence France. Her work renders real subjects with an impressionist’s style using vivid color, light and shadow, reflection, and sufficient detail to reveal new insights into the world around her. Birds feeding, boats sailing, oceans glistening, flowers blooming, trees reaching, lighthouses shining, beaches beckoning, waves breaking, marshes glowing, fog lifting, and harbor vessels lying peacefully at their moorings are familiar themes in Marion’s paintings that stimulate one’s emotions and memories.

For the past decade Marion has been studying watercolor painting and developing her painting into a new passion and career. She began her studies with Paula Jean Kulas of Peabody MA. More recently she studied with Paul George of Gloucester MA, Carol Sebold of Camden ME, and Janet Rogers of Captiva FL. She has exhibited in Manchester at the Town Hall, the Arts Gala, the Sovereign Bank, and the Historical Museum. She has a painting in the permanent collection of the Manchester Historical Museum. She has exhibited at the Guild of Beverly Artists, Magnolia Library Art Sale, the Topsfield Fair, Art-in-the-Barn at Essex County Greenbelt, Thatcher’s Island Show, Sawyer Free Library, the TTOR Art Show at the Crane Estate, the Sanibel-Captiva Art League’s Annual Juried Art Show, their Southwest Florida Regional Juried Art Show, and their Annual Art Fair, and the Marblehead Festival of the Arts.

At Rockport Art Association Marion won the 2014 Joseph L.C. Santoro Memorial Award for Excellence in Watercolor. Marion won Best in Show, Senior Division and Best Watercolor at the Marblehead Festival of the Arts in 2014 and Best in Show in 2012. She was juried into the New England Watercolor Society National Show in 2014, 2012, and 2010 and the Regional Shows in 2011 and 2013. In the Southwest Florida Regional Art Show at Big Arts on Sanibel Island she won the Merit Award and the Most Popular Painting Award in 2011, and Second Place Watercolor in 2012. She won Best in Show in the Sanibel-Captiva Art League Member Show in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Marion won the Second Place in Watercolors in the Magnolia Library Show in 2014 and First Place 2010, People’s Choice Awards: Best in Show and Best Watercolor Painting in 2011, and Second Place Watercolor in 2012 and 2013. At the Guild of Beverly Artists Marion won First Place 2014 and Best in Show in the Fall of 2012, Best in Show and Best Watercolor in Spring of 2012 and First and Second Place Ribbons in the Spring of 2009. At the Topsfield Fair she won Best in Show in 2008. At North Shore Arts Association she won the New Member Award in 2013, the Workshop Fund Award in 2012, and the Scholarship Award in 2008.

Marion is an Artist Member of the Rockport Art Association and the North Shore Arts Association. Marion is a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor Society. She is a Cape Ann Museum docent. She is an exhibiting artist and member of the Marblehead Art Association, and the Sanibel-Captiva Art League. Before her career as a watercolorist Marion was a Physical Therapist in the schools in Manchester, Rockport, Essex, and Hamilton-Wenham and she worked for the visiting nurse associations in Manchester, Gloucester, Rockport, and Beverly. During the Viet Nam War Marion was a LtJg in the US Navy as a Physical Therapist at Chelsea Naval Hospital.  She is an alumna of Tufts University and Northeastern University. Marion Hall lives and teaches watercolor painting in her new Manchester Studio and she vacations and teaches on Upper Captiva Island, Florida.    2020-01
